Hope you are staying safe in these trying times. It seems like my life has been at a standstill for awhile, but here is what's currently happening. I have been doing a weekly broadcast on my Facebook page Saturdays at 2 p.m. I recently completed Live Session #21, so that gives you an idea of the length of time - New Jersey was shut down for about 4 - 5 weeks prior to my starting this. These programs are free and 'public', so anyone can view them. I don't ask for tips, because so many people need much more than I do at this point - just pass it forward in some way. Go to my fb page for the live video, or view previous ones under 'videos' from my page, which is also public. I hope it provides some period of calm if needed.

Musicians On Call had of course stopped in March because we couldn't just walk through the hospitals to play for patients. I am happy to say MOC has started an online program to be broadcasted to their hospitals each month. I will be doing the Phila. area program next week, hopefully again to provide a moment of calm and healing through the power of music.

The Greenwood Inn Blues Open Mic in Pennsauken, NJ has carefully started up again, and I'm in the house band for that. People are respecting my wishes to stay socially distant and wear a mask, and I would also add that The Greenwood Inn has a top-of-the-line air filtration system and sanitation procedures in place.

So stay safe, wear a mask, and support those who need it. And also pass along a little kindness.
Lore Constantinetag:loreconstantine.com,2005:Post/61661742020-01-24T11:45:09-05:002020-10-28T04:49:41-04:00General News Update!
Hi Everyone! In updating my website, I realized I haven't posted any 'official news' for quite awhile. That doesn't mean I haven't been very busy. You can always connect with me on Facebook for my up-to-the minute events. Here's a summary: I'm in the house band of the Greenwood Inn Open Blues Mic (Wednesday nights). I play frequently with Chinacat Jubilee - a Grateful Dead inspired happening, and am a member of The Truckin' Company, which plays music of Little Feat, Traffic, Allman Brothers, and the Grateful Dead. Check my calendar for upcoming gigs. Thank you to everyone who comes out to support these events!
Lore Constantinetag:loreconstantine.com,2005:Post/61223952018-05-30T20:00:00-04:002018-05-31T03:14:13-04:00Cheap Cigar Last Gigs, Dark Star on Flute!

Just letting you know Cheap Cigar in its original line-up is winding down. We have 2 dates coming up: June 1 at Filomena's Blackwood and June 15 at Filomena's Berlin, so if you've wanted to come out and here us, these are your choices!

Also, I've been playing a few times with Tom Davis and Chinacat Jubilee. Here's a link to a special treat for me - adding in on flute with Dark Star. Hope you enjoy it!

Just a quick note to let you know I have some new video posted on Youtube of my band Cheap Cigar. Our singer Lisa couldn't be there that night but we have two guest singers filling in on a few of the songs. Other songs are just the core band. There will be more in the next week posted both by me and the videographer, but here's a short playlist to get you started: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTXw9zrLKyoF1i4VqEjwsRfeB4lRqlfRf

Just a quick news flash - I realized I haven't sent out a newsletter in quite awhile, but I really don't have the time today. I have a gig tonight, had one last night, 2 next Sat. - including a formal recital where I'm the accompanist for John Carter's Cantat with soprano Melissa Perry.

Tonight Cheap Cigar opens for a 5-band extravaganza at Villari's in Sicklerville, NJ. Next Sat. is the concert I mentioned plus I'm out with the Deadbeats at Geraghty's in Burlington, Two more additional gigs with Cheap Cigar in March, plus I'll be filling in with TK & the Howlers. Wednesday nights you can still find me at the Greenwood. (Oh - and in other news, we were up in NYC for pre-Grammy festivities, and I was jamming in Greenwich Village several times! Pictures on Facebook!) Plus there was more radio play on WXPN, and reports of digital listens around the world!!!

So all I can say is check my website calendar for details of the many events coming up.

Today on Facebook I called my schedule a "Maelstrom of Music"! In what I thought would be a slightly slower summer, I have gigs coming up not only with my band Cheap Cigar, but also with Travis Bickle & the Enforcers (sorry - private party!) and with another local band called the Deadbeats, which you may be able to guess plays a lot of music of the Grateful Dead. But even more exciting, after spending the last two years NOT promoting my music/albums etc. I have a 'mini tour' that has come together through no effort on my part - after trying to do this on my own for a number of years. I am feeling very thankful for all the people whose efforts are making this possible.

So if you've been wanting to hear me solo, now's your chance! Next Monday (7/24) I'll be at Hard Rock Cafe in Philly to play on a Musicians On Call Volunteer Spotlight Concert, sponsored by WXPN. Then on August 5 I'm the opening act for the Burlington County Amphitheater summer concert series, followed by an appearance at the Bitter End in NYC on Aug. 28 with the Indie Collaborative.

Hi Everyone,

Hope you've had a great summer! And to celebrate end of summer (or to wish it was continuing for another month or so), here are a few gigs I have coming up.

First, I'm in another band (yes, another one!). I'm now the keyboard player for the south Jersey band Cheap Cigar. Our debut together will be this Saturday, at Auburn Road Winery, Pilesgrove, NJ from 7 - 9 p.m. Reservations are recommended, $5 cover charge. Check my website for future dates in Oct. & Nov. at Time Out Sports Bar & Grill, Barrington, NJ and Filomeno's, West Berlin, NJ.

Up next is Sat. Sept. 10 at Red. Hot and Blue, Cherry Hill with TK & the Howlers. As you know I've been the backup keyboard player with this band. I'm really looking forward to this gig, because their regular keyboard player Mike will be there with keyboard & sax, and I'll be there with keyboard & flute, and we're going to get a 2 keyboard thing going with organ & piano, as well as his great sax playing, and my 'fluting'. So this is going to be an all-out jam session with the 'mega' TK & the Howlers. And speaking of jam sessions, we'll be at the Greenwood Inn (my favorite Wed. night open mic blues jam!) on Sat., October 15, and are inviting other musicians to come and join in with us for a major jam session later in the evening.

So I hope this gives you some 'end of summer' ideas. See you soon!

Hi Everybody!

Just a quick note. I'll be at the Burlington Farmer's Market THIS Saturday morning, doing a solo gig! I'll be playing from 9 a.m. til 1 p.m., and it's a great farmers market too - lots of produce, baked goods, etc. So I hope to see you there! (And later that aft. in Cherry Hill will be a Marian Anderson Youth Guild Recital. Correction: The Guild Recital will be at the Neighborhood Center in Camden.

Additional dates:

Oct. 15 - Greenwood Inn, Pennsauken (TK & the H.)

And I'll continue to post on my website when I'm playing at the Greenwood's Open Blues Mic (I'm there most Weds.) and the Burlington VFW Open Mic (the 1st Fri. of the month).

Hi Everyone!

This is short notice (but if you're on Facebook with me you'll know this!) I've joined a new band called "RESCUE DAWGS jam band" and tonight will be our first gig at Dr. Lou's Place in Roebling, NJ. So come out & join in - at Dr. Lou's there's always open mic/jamming time for everyone, and it should be a great party! (See below for further dates coming up in Atlantic City.)

I've posted a story about my new red keyboard which I'll have at Dr. Lou's on my blog at my website. I first put this up on Facebook on Sept. 4, but you might enjoy reading it. Here's the link: http://loreconstantine.com/blog/the_red_keyboard_odyssey/ (I would add that RESCUE DAWGS came in to being that first night at the open mic jam at the VFW in Burlington. (Speaking of which, that open mic runs the first Fri. of the month. It's cancelled for Oct. but I hope to be back there for Nov.!) (CORRECTION: the VFW open mic may be on now for Oct. 2, it had been cancelled for a bit, but I'll be at Little Negril - see below!)

Next on the calendar, next Fri. (10/2) I'll be playing solo at our favorite Jamaican restaurant - Little Negril, from 8 - 10 p.m. The food is authentic, and if you've ever been to the Berlin Farmer's Market they have an outdoor grill & stand there. But I'll be at there Cherry Hill location (posted on my website).

Additional dates to keep in mind - practically every Wed. night I go to the Greenwood Inn, Pennsauken, NJ for an open mic blues jam, and I'll be bringing my keyboard there this coming Wed., so it should be fun. There's always a great group of musicians joining in and it's near my house, so I rarely miss it these days. Send me a message or check on Facebook if you want to make sure I'll be there.

And now back to RESCUE DAWGS - we have several dates coming up in Atlantic City. On Oct. 10 we play at a Skateboard Park at Sovereign Ave. & the Bay. (right now scheduled for 3 p.m.), and then Oct. 17 (9:45 p.m.) & Nov. 7 (9:00 p.m.) we'll be at Le Grand Fromage, but double check my website in case the times change.

And while you're at my website, check out video I've posted from the open mic blues jam at the Greenwood.

Take care, & hope to see you somewhere soon!

This Friday (May 1) I'll be helping to host an open mic event at the VFW in Burlington, NJ. I usually sit and jam with almost everyone, because it's a great bunch of musicians - kind of like my 'dream' event whenever I go. I play everything from Elvis to Johnny Cash to classic rock and roll - you name it and probably someone is there to play it. I might have to try to sneak in a Dead tune this time - ha ha! It starts at 8 p.m. - hope to see you there.

Some of my original music is now on Rumblefish's www.friendlymusic.com . I'm not exactly sure how it works, but this is a site that allows you to license songs for use in your music videos, etc. So if you're interested in that, check it out - and try searching my name to find me. Right now it's 4 songs, including "Serenity". When I learn more and find out about the rest of my music that's not on there yet, I'll let you know!

I have been very busy lately playing a variety of concerts, including the Woman One Award Ceremony honoring Lynne Korman Honickman (sponsored by the Institue for Women's Health & Leadership, Drexel University's College of Medicine) and for the Eastern Conference of NANM for the Marian Anderson Guild of South Jersey. In addition to my continued efforts with Musicians On Call, it is now time to prepare for several student recitals, for my own teaching studio (piano, flute & voice) and for St. Cecilia's School, where I teach piano. In addition, I now play for weekly church services at Martin Luther School in Pennsauken, and am helping them to prepare for their school musical, and will be accompanying the Marian Anderson Guild's youth concert on May 23. So keep in touch, and I'll try to keep my website calendar updated for any events coming up. (And send me a note if you want to know when I'm heading up to Dr. Lou's Place in Roebling, NJ, which involves a lot of the fine musicians that will be in Burlington on Friday - it's another of those 'dream' events for me. Sometimes it's last minute, but I'll try to let you know.)

Oh, and speaking of dream events - I now am the proud owner of a 1920 Steinway - one of those old pianos with a very beautiful, rich sound, perfect for playing Brahms & Garcia/Hunter tunes. Pictures are posted on FB if you're interested. Definitely a dream I didn't even let myself have because I thought it was so out of reach, but it has happened anyway.

That's all for now. Whew! Hope to see you Friday!

It has been just over a year since I have released my double CD "My Red Car", which includes a number of original songs, as well as my cover of the Garcia/Hunter tune Brokedown Palace, and a special bonus CD of instrumental versions of the vocal songs (with me on flute.) It is an eclectic collection of music, Americana influenced - a bit of blues, swing, jazz, ballads, featuring some great performances by other musicians who joined me on this project.

To celebrate this, I am offering full-album digital downloads from CD Baby (now through 9/2/14) for a special price of $11.99 (regularly $14.99). Available now on my Home page! Thank you in advance for your support!

Hi Everyone!

Yes, it's been quite awhile since I've sent out a newsletter. (And I have a few gigs coming up this weekend in Medford & Mt. Holly, so be sure & check them out later in this letter!) Anyway, after all of my promo and PR efforts related to my new album and the grammy ballot, I basically took a step back to regroup and refresh, with both my teaching and my playing. The life of a musician in today's economy involves wearing many hats, and when you also take on the role of record producer, PR firm - both publicity and distribution, as well as all the tasks that fall on a business manager in the business (including copyrights, mechanical licenses, etc.) things can become very daunting. The immense amount of details when you're doing it all yourself is amazing!

I recently updated the 'News Feed' on my website, because while I was going through everything this past year I was just adding notes to my home page, and clearing things away to put up the most happenings. I was really surprised when I viewed everything in this timeline going back to the beginning of July - it showed me the big picture again of what I had actually accomplished with this CD, rather than getting caught up in what did or did not take place commercially with it. After all the work and doubt as an artist when you put something out there that's different, I can say I am very proud of "My Red Car" and what I have done as an independent artist. I want to thank all of you for the support you have given to me!

I have posted a new video on YouTube of "Blue Bayou", with me on flute, Jack Prucella on guitar, and Michael Ronstadt on cello. One result of a very great CD Release Party was that there was such a crowd there having such a great time, that my video of the music didn't have the clarity of sound I was hoping for. In fact, this song was at the end of the night, and there was a pretty good pool game going on in the background - I think I can even see a reflection of a pool stick in the picture on the wall behind us! But this song was a real pleasure to play with Michael. I have played this song for many years with Jack in my flute/guitar duo, and the third "solo" verse I had developed thinking of Linda Ronstadt not only singing this song, but also of her Tejano albums, so it was an honor to be able to play it with Michael (and he is just improvising - it's the first time he heard us play it!). Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa_7DAKK1Nk

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to update you on my album, but before I do that, I wanted to let you know I have a new playing home! I will be at Charley's Other Brother in Eastampton, NJ (just above Mt. Holly) on Saturday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., starting this Saturday night (tonight!). There will be a few Saturdays that I am unable to make (including June 8 when I'm at Collingswood's Second Saturday), so be sure to check my website or send me an e-mail if you want to double check that I'm there. I have already played at Charley's several times, and feel welcomed by the owner, staff and customers - it's a good fit for me and my music! The keyboard is located at the front across from the bar, with lots of seating and small tables. Also, the music is piped into the restaurant area. So come early, sit with me for awhile and have a cocktail, then go in to the dining room & have a great dinner.

Now on to the album!

"My Red Car" is coming out soon. Final mixing and mastering took place this week, and it will be off to the manufacturer for design work and production in the next week or so. An artist friend in Boston is designing artwork for the cover - I wanted to make sure this album would stand out from my others, because it is not the expected solo piano. But here's a promo photo of me and the car:

I plan to have the album available on pre-release through iTunes by the end of June, allowing you to receive a track immediately, then a download of the full album on the release date, which will be at the beginning of August, as it looks now. A CD Release Party will be held in the Fall, and I will be looking to arrange this event with all of the wonderful musicians who helped me on this project, so it will definitely be an event!

Now to the album itself. This will be a 2 CD set, with the main structure and vocal selections on the first CD. The second CD will be bonus instrumental tracks of the vocal music, but with me playing flute/piccolo instead of singing. Sometimes you just want to listen to music, not a voice, and this allows you to do that.

The music itself is why I'm doing this CD. It all started with an idea I had for a song (My Red Car), based on a true story (mine), and the same day I was given a ukelele from my friend (& lyricist) Nancy. So that was the start of the journey.

This began a year of collaboration with Nancy, writing music to her words, giving her ideas of several songs which she turned into song lyrics for me, and also doing a few words myself. The result was some strong ballads like "If Ever Such a Day", a waltz called "Lore's Song" about someone going through hard times, "Movin' Ahead" which in my mind seems to be a bit inspired by Carole King (but you decide!), the very lyrical "On Nights Like These", and a blues piece "Quicksand Conversation".

There are 3 ukelele songs (the others have piano, of course!) on the album - the catchy "My Red Car", a bittersweet tune called "You Never Asked My Middle Name", and a cover of "Dream a Little Dream of Me". Also there are 3 instrumental numbers on the main album. One is called "Night Stoll", a cool jazzy piece that had been running in my head for several years. Putting it on the album forced me to find a way to put an ending on the tune! There is a beautiful cover of Merle Saunder's "Sunrise Over Haleakala" (piano with a beautiful cello part played by Michael Ronstadt), and a solo piano cover of the Garcia/Hunter tune Brokedown Palace.

So the music became an album - a wide-ranging album. My first step was to call in my sound engineer Michael Richelle, to plan out how to go about this. I knew some songs could use violin, guitar & drums, but when I heard Michael Ronstadt play cello at a coffee house, I thought he would really fit with my music. So I sent him some of the music, he agreed to play, and we set up some studio time with bassist Dan Bacon and drummer/percussionist Russell Gellman. This was a great 3 days, and the creative input of everyone as these songs developed, and the pure joy of spending time in the studio with musicians you click with, was a real treat. (I might add that after every session, and sometimes during the session, someone would either start humming the music, or whistling. I look at that as a good sign!)

As the arrangements developed, Michael's cello really became a key part of this album, and he's even doing some blues riffs in "Quicksand". What was a singer-songwriter album with a bit of violin, bass & drums added to it, became a full-fledged acoustic album, with Michael volunteering to do string arrangements. We had Janet Marquardt lay down the violin tracks, and also do a nice solo in "Lore's Song", and to top off the whole project, Jack Prucella (the guitarist in my flute duo) came in and did two wonderful acoustic guitar solos in "If Ever Such a Day" and "Quicksand Conversation".

What I thought last year was a very slow year for me as a working musician, morphed into this amazing project. Hopefully other people will like it too, but what is important to me is the music and the amazing journey it has taken me on this year.

As soon as the project is up on iTunes, I'll send out an e-mail blast, and also will have the music playing at my website. As you can probably guess, this has been a much bigger venture financially than I was originally planning on. The amazing thing is, that at the very time I arranged the first 3 days in the studio with the other musicians, I started to get some unexpected playing and accompanying jobs through the Marian Anderson Guild. These jobs, along with another unnamed backer, allowed me to continue with more sessions in the studio, at a time when I would have had to postpone the project to get caught up financially. I am very thankful to them - this allowed me to continue straight through with the album, without having to develop a Kickstarter campaign on top of everything else. I could just concentrate on the album and the music.

I will however give you an opportunity to join in if you want. I have T-shirts which have only been available at my live gigs, of the music note/hummingbird logo that can be found on my albums. These T-shirts are available for $15, including shipping & tax, by sending a check or money order payable to LGC Productions LLC, P.O. Box 1612, Merchantville, NJ 08109. Be sure to list style - Unisex, V-neck ladies, Youth - and Size S, M L, XL. **If you want the cactus green unisex, I have just a limited number left and can't re-order that color, so send me an e-mail on that to check availability.** After the green runs out, they will be grey like the others.

Here's a picture:

And one last package available, When the artwork is finalized I will be doing T-shirts of the album cover of "My Red Car". For $30 (including shipping & tax) you will receive the Red Car T-shirt in about 3 - 4 weeks, and also a personal signed copy of the "My Red Car" double CD when it is released in August. Again, orders can be sent to my Merchantville P.O. Box. Be sure to include your name, address, size, style of shirt, and e-mail or phone number so I can contact you if I have any questions.

Thanks for all of your support, and I hope to see some of you at Charley's Other Brother soon!

Take care,

I'm back in the studio! This project is mostly original music (some with words!), and includes piano, ukelele, cello (Michael Ronstadt), Upright Bass (Dan Bacon), and percussion (Russell Gellman).

This is my first album bringing in other musicians, and it's very exciting. The songs themselves are why I'm doing the album, all originals (with words by Nancy Paolin and myself) having arisen just in this last year. It's wonderful to be able to develop a musical concept, and have the other musicians join in and really get what I'm trying to accomplish. Stay tuned!

On December 9, I had the honor of playing on a Holiday concert at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to the concert which was broadcast in-house to wounded soldiers, I was also able to play in the lobby both before and after the show.

I found out the morning of the show that Allison Krauss and Dan Tyminsky had been planning on coming up for the show, but were unable to fly due to bad weather. While it would have been exciting to be on the same show with them, the real story here is the wounded soldiers and staff at Walter Reed. Hopefully our music provided a respite and comfort in this Holiday season. I would urge anyone who is looking for a cause to donate to either Musicians On Call www.musiciansoncall.org or the Combat Veteran Sports Foundation www.combatvetsports.org which sponsored our concert at Walter Reed.

I have just reviewed the final proofs for my new album, called 'Piano Expressions'. This album is continuing a musical journey that began with my album 'Piano Impressions', and includes blues music of New Orleans and classic rock standards, as well as a few other musical diversions and original compositions mixed in. As always, the music interpretation is foremost, both in the arrangements and improvised solos - an "eclectic contemporary styling with a classical ethos".
I expect to be picking up the album directly from the manufacture (estimated date is Dec. 4), and within a few days from that time the music should be available for download at Dig Station, through DiscMakers. It will be a few more weeks for CD Baby to offer the CD on-line, and they will be sending it to iTunes and other internet sites.
I'm very excited about my new album, and I hope you enjoy it!

I have received a review of a recital I gave at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, by Dr. Douglas Ovens, Professor and Chair of Music Department (see Press/Reviews). This was a formal recital that included a Scarlatti Sonata, a Chopin Ballade, and music from my album, as well as music of New Orleans piano players James Booker and Professor Longhair. It was truly a program of piano across the centuries, and very exciting to perform!

Several of you have asked, and to give a heads up, I will be going
back into the studio this summer to do another album. Of course it
will have some more Grateful Dead, but also some James Booker and
Professor Longhair, possibly another Led Zeppelin song and a few other surprises! I'll keep you posted as things develop this summer!

I have been placed on Standby for the South X Southwest Music Festival, to be held this March in Austin, Texas. They had over 10,000 applications from artists wishing to perform at this festival, and I am on what they call a "very small list of acts to continue to consider."
I feel honored to be included as a solo artist!

I am departing from my regular 'news' format to send a word of sympathy to the residents of California, in the midst of a tragic situation.
I wanted to relate a personal story about my CD. I sent an advance copy of my CD to a cousin of my father who lives in Point Loma, and had been giving supportive 'start up' advice. She decided to listen to it at an overlook of the beach, and rolled down her windows, and opened her sun roof, and basically 'cranked it up'. To her surprise and amazement, joggers stopped, surfers coming back from the beach stopped, and she had a group that hung around her car, and continued to listen to the rest of the CD, and at the end, they applauded. This was the first time that I realized that what I hoped to accomplish in putting together a cohesive album was actually getting across to people.
So at any rate, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of San Diego, as I continue hearing stories my second cousin relates to me in her volunteer efforts at the stadium, etc.

Thanks to Chuck Elliot for playing another song from my album on Sleepy Hollow, "Takes My Breath Away." Due to recital preparations, I'm a bit behind in saying thanks, but it is very gratifying that he is playing such a variety of songs from my album. Thank you, Chuck!
